In the Franchise and Enterprise Edition it is imperative for every business Location to be writing financial transactions to the server using the server’s date / time NOT the workstation’s.
Again, this is imperative. Especially for Enterprises which have Locations in different time zones.
Here is how the time synchronization works.
Every Location setup has a ‘Time Offset from Server’ setting. For example, if the server is in Toronto, Locations in British Columbia would set –3 hours, and Locations in Newfoundland with set +1.5. Locations in Toronto, would set 0, of course.
All financial transactions are written on the server using the server’s date / time stamp.
When a Location in British Columbia wants a sales report for Sat. Oct. 6, the report tool would ask for him for the start and end date / time to include. He would indicate 06 Oct. 00:00 to 06 Oct. 23:59. To have his sales included in the report, the software would correct his request to the server’s time, so it would actually report transactions for the Location written 06 Oct. 03:00 to 07 Oct. 02:59 (server time). This correction, of course, is because the server is writing the Location’s transactions in the server’s local time.
When Sales Reports are printed at any level in the Enterprise, the sales period is effectively closed – although we do NOT enforce this with code. It is therefore imperative that nobody post sales in the past. Posting using the server’s date / time prevents this.
For information on setting the Time Zone of the business Location, see the Location Defaults topic.
