Unit Conversion Formulae

You use the Setup Unit Conversion Formulae dialog to define calculations for converting between the units you use to sell an item and the units you use to purchase that item. For example, you may purchase an item in cases of 12 one litre bottles, but you sell individual one litre bottles.

By allowing you to define these formulae, the software does not limit the different case lot definitions that different businesses and industries might require. Cases lot definitions are often different between countries; for example Canada uses metric measurements while the U.S. uses imperial measurements.

As you set up each Material and Supply Item, you assign the applicable Unit Conversion Formula. The software subsequently uses that calculation during purchasing and invoicing of the item.

NOTE: You cannot modify the default unit conversion formula "Unit x 1 = Units". The software uses that formula by default.

TIP: In most cases you'll find that the software ships with all the Unit Conversion Formulae your business will need already defined.

The Setup Unit Conversion Formulae dialog:

Each Unit Conversion Formula consists of 5 parameters:

To access the Unit Conversion formulae dialog:

To modify a formula:

To add a new formula:

To delete a formula:

IMPORTANT: You may not delete a Unit Conversion Formula if any inventory items have been assigned to that formula. If you attempt to remove a formula that is used, The software will display a dialog which displays the number of inventory items assigned that formula.

TIP: Unit Conversion Formulae are set up for an entire Enterprise. Individual business Locations do NOT activate subsets of the enterprise list.
