Workstation Defaults Spell Check Tab

Configuring the Software's Spell Checker

Use the check boxes in the Spell Checker frame to have the spell checker ignore certain words.  For example, if you commonly type in text boxes in all upper case letters, you could click the second option above, to have upper case words ignored by the checker.

If you would like to have the software check spelling as you type, you can choose one option from the Typing Error Action frame to indicate how you want the software to respond to misspelled words.

How the Spell Checker Works

The software features a built-in Spell Check tool very similar to the spell checker available in Microsoft Word.  Spell checking is available anywhere in the software where you can enter text.

You may configure the Spell Checker to check spelling automatically as you type, or you may choose to selectively spell check using the spell check tool (shown below) which is available on every the software dialog where text entry is required.

Selective Spell Checking using the Spell Check Tool

If you click the small Spell Check tool while entering text, and your text contains an error, the Spell Check dialog appears.

The Ignore tool leaves the highlighted error unchanged and finds the next misspelling.

The Ignore All tool leaves all instances of the highlighted error unchanged throughout the text box and continues to check the text box.

The Add tool adds the word in the Change To: box to the custom dictionary. The dictionary file name is indicated in the Add Words To: combo box (see Technical Information below).

Click Change to accept the current selection in the Change To: box, or edit the text in the box and then click Change.

Click Change All to change all instances of the word in the Change To: box to the highlighted word in the Suggestions box, or edit the text in the box and then click Change All. The software changes all instances of the error in the active text box only.

Technical Information

The list of words that the software's Spell Checker ignores (initialized by the setup program) is kept in a folder under the application path folder called Dictionary.  Its file name is AutomotiveDictFile.txt.  It is a text file, which may be edited with Windows Notepad.  It is therefore easy to build a list of technical terms specific to your industry which you would like the spell checker to ignore.

Obviously, the custom dictionary is specific to the workstation, but is easy to copy and paste among workstations should it be desirable.

You may keep any number of custom dictionary files.
