As with other Windows applications, there are a number of ways you can access functions or perform actions in the software. The most straightforward method is to use the mouse to point and click or double-click an item. This is the method that is documented throughout this Online Guide.
However, if you prefer, you can also use the keyboard to perform any action, either by pressing a combination of the Alt or Shift keys and a letter key, or by pressing a Function key.
In the software, the F10 key is used consistently to shift the focus to a dialog's toolbar or menu. When the toolbar or menu has the focus, you may use the up / down / left / right arrow keys on your keyboard to highlight a tool then the <ENTER> key to execute it. For example, if you have a work order open, the F10 key will shift focus between the work order dialog menu and the main software menu. This is especially useful when both have File or Tool menus.
On the menu bar, one letter of each menu item or command is underscored. If you press the Alt key and the underscored letter on the keyboard at the same time, the menu item or command is executed just as if you had clicked on the item or command with the mouse.
For example, on the desktop, if you press Alt+V (that is, press and hold the Alt key then tap the V key), the View menu is displayed.
Once the menu is open, you can choose an item from it by pressing the Shift key and the item's underscored letter at the same time. For example, to open the Contacts manager window, display the View menu, and then press Shift+t.
This method of keyboard access to menus is common to all Windows programs, including Microsoft Office.
Tip: On the view menu you will notice each of software's managers have Function keys assigned to them. For instance, F2 will open the work in progress manager.
Every window that is opened within the software has a tab order. A tab order allows you to move from field to field within the dialog by pressing the TAB key. If you keep pressing the tab key you will cycle through each filed on the dialog and eventually start over again. To move backwards one tab stop press SHIFT + TAB.
Many dialogs allow access to drop down list where you can choose a supplier, bank account, expense category, etc. from the list of choices. When using the mouse, you would click on the icon to open the list. This icon is one of the tab stops (see moving around dialogs above) in the dialog. Once located on the icon you can access the list by pressing the SPACE bar or ALT + ENTER. Different dialog will require you use one or the other depending on the type of list used. Typically the pop-up lists use SPACE and the drop down lists use ALT + TAB.
