Service Package Labor Lines

Description: Describe the labor being performed in the top description box. If you would like your Service Advisors to modify the labor line's description every time this Service Package is added to a Work Order, click the Description Required when Invoicing checkbox (to the right of the description). When its checked, the labor description will appear magenta on Work Order documents, and Invoices may not be posted until its unchecked by the Service Advisor.

Guide Search: Labor times may be programmed to dynamically search for the proper labor time for the vehicle currently being invoiced.  This is done using a reference to the software's online Mitchell Labor Guides.

To enable this feature, use the Labor Guides tool to look up a description string for this labor line. When this Service Package is eventually added to an invoice - and the actual vehicle is known - the labor time and price may easily be updated for the actual vehicle being serviced by referencing the labor guides using this description string and the vehicle details.

Essentially this feature simply allows you to lookup and save the proper labor guide description in advance, saving time at invoice generation time.

Times and Prices: Click the down arrow to choose a labor rate for the labor line. You can choose one of your four default location labor rates, or select Fixed Rate or Fixed Total.

If you select one of your default labor rates, once you enter either the time or the total dollars for the labor line, the software will recalculate the other parameter automatically.

If you select the Fixed Rate option, the software will allow you to enter any amount as the labor rate for this labor line, and will use the time entered to calculate the total dollars for the labor line.

If you select the Fixed Total option, the software will prompt you to enter a total dollar amount for the labor line and the time allocated to the labor line, and will recalculate the hourly rate.

If you would like your Service Advisors to modify the labor line's time every time this Service Package is added to a Work Order, click the Hours Required when Invoicing checkbox (to the right of the hours line). When its checked, the labor time will appear magenta on Work Order documents, and Invoices may not be posted until its unchecked by the Service Advisor.

To apply a discount to this individual labor line, specify any Hard Amount (a set dollar discount) or Percentage discount to be applied directly to this labor line total. The default is No Discount.

NOTE: Discounts to individual labor lines are also affected by discounts applied to the entire Service Package. Refer to the Discounts on Service Packages topic for details.

Note that the Labor Line charges tab is applicable only when authoring and maintaining Location Service Packages.

Select the check boxes for all taxes or other types of charges that will apply to this labor line by default when its added to a Work Order. This list of charges is set up using the Location Taxes & Other Charges dialog.

Note that the Technician and Supplier combos are applicable only when authoring and maintaining Location Service Packages (they are disabled when viewing a Service Package Template).  You can select a default Technician (the guy who normally does this type of work at the shop). If this labor line is usually done by an outside shop, select the default shop name and cost.

Pre-selecting the technician or outside shop simply expedites the process of invoice generation.

Select the check boxes for the information that should be displayed when this Service Package labor line is placed on work orders:

• Display the number of hours.

• Display the labor rate.

• Display the technician or outside shop name.

• Display the price reduction if the shops highest labor rate is not used.
